Homelessness

As of 2012, 230 families in Howard County are homeless. More than 20 often include children. The Route One Day Center, a Grassroots 501©3 organization that serves the homeless of Howard County provides meals, basic preventative medical care, crisis intervention, and counseling to more than 200 people every month!

On May 3, 2014, our Association, together with many other corporate and government partners, will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual “Hope for the Homeless” 5K run at Rockburn Park.  All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Route One Day Center, and we are seeking individual and corporate sponsors who would like to help us with the costs involved in putting on this event.  If you would like to sponsor please call 410-549-7156 or sign up here.

About Route One Day Center

The Route One Day Resource Center, located at 8826 Washington Blvd., Jessup, MD is a place of refuge where the homeless in the Elkridge community can have a hot meal, a shower, get clothing, outdoor survival gear, receive their mail, and have access to limited medical care. They can get assistance with identification documents and referrals to community services, as well as assistance applying for state benefits. Supported by Grassroots, most services are provided by volunteers.

Sponsorship

We are seeking individual and corporate sponsors who would like to help us with the costs involved in putting on this event so that the bulk of the entry fees and donations can be given directly to minister to the homeless in Howard County. We are very grateful that we already have the sponsorship of two area businesses, and the endorsement and help of District 2 Councilman Calvin Ball. Our ultimate desire is for county-wide cooperation with people from all over our area. With your help, our goal is to raise enough resources to cover all expenses, so that every penny of the entry fees paid for this race can be given directly to the Route One Day Center.
