Children's Ministry
(410) 730-2026
At
CBF we believe children are one of our most important assets! They teach
us about God, our loving Parent, even as we teach and lead them in learning
about Jesus and His redeeming love. Children at CBF have a variety of
opportunities for learning about becoming a part of God's family and Christ's
love for each of us.
Preschoolers,
birth through kindergarten, are in age-graded classes on Sunday mornings.
Teachers’ materials help them prepare developmentally appropriate activities
for aiding preschooler's learning. Through their work of play, preschoolers
are guided in discovering God's love, in practicing worship as a natural
part of how we live, and in learning that the Bible has stories and lessons
that apply to our lives. The adult worship hour is a time of "Extended
Teaching Care" for preschoolers who continue to enjoy being with,
and learning about being, church friends and family. Some special events
for children are open to preschoolers when accompanied by a parent.
Children,
1st-6th grade, are in age-graded classes for Sunday School. Teacher's
lessons help children learn Bible truths about God, Jesus, the church,
and about our relationships with the world, our family and others. Children
are helped to understand what it means to make a commitment to becoming
a part of God's family as a Christian and are helped to grow as followers
of Christ.
Some
of the special events and activities of the Children's Ministry of CBF
are described below. Volunteers are always welcome and needed in children’s
ministry activities. If you would like to “invest” in our future this
way, please contact the church office.
- Talent Night
and Potluck
We are
a multi-talented congregation, and this is the night to let your light
shine! Help us organize the program by calling the office and identifying
what talent you would like to share. Remember to bring a main dish large
enough for your family and a few more, and a dessert to share.
- Altar Candle-lighters
Each Sunday children
(1st-6th) and younger youth (7th-8th) light the candle on the altar
at the beginning of worship, reminding all of God’s presence and readiness
for our worship.
- Children’s Feature
1st, 3rd, and 5th
Sundays children’s sermon during worship, "down front". Worship
bags with quiet, worship-focused activities are provided to each child
to help them better worship in ways meaningful to them.
- Children’s Worship
Meets 2nd and 4th
Sundays during the hour of regular worship, for those in grades 1 -
5. Expectations are the same as those of regular worship with parents,
but the biblical content and music are more child-friendly.
- Children’s Choir
(Not active at this
time.)
- Now That I’m
a Christian
This group is convened
on an occasional basis. It is a four-week program that explores faith,
church membership and baptism with children who are questioning these
things or with children who have recently made a commitment. A parent
group meets concurrently. For grades 1-6.
- 6th Grader Group
Meets September -
June to foster faith development and fellowship with pre-teens prior
to the transition to youth group. (Not active at this time.)
- Second Sundays
The second Sunday
of each month, September - June, the children go on outings to places
such as the science center, the zoo, the movies, a working local farm,
or even a game day at The Meeting House. Fellowship with church friends
and family is what makes it fun.
- Vacation Bible
School
Includes classes
for children, youth and adults. Five days of concentrated bible study
for all ages, usually held the last week in June, Sunday - Thursday,
in the evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A time for fun, singing, missions,
music and studying the Word. A closing program which includes a Family
Night Potluck is held the Sunday evening following VBS and is a time
of celebration.
- Crosspoint
CBF children participate
in Crosspoint, held the first week in August for grades 4-8 at Skycroft
Baptist Conference Center about one hour west. Crosspoint is a sports-oriented
camp in a Christian environment that encourages participants to learn
a sport they do not already know, so even non-sports enthusiasts have
fun when they attend. It is an intensive week of Bible study and application,
developing sports skills, fun, and exploring one's relationship with
God, family and others. It is consistently the favorite week of the
year for 9-13-year-olds.
- Bibles to 1st
Graders
Annually in September,
CBF presents 1st graders a Bible inscribed with their name from their
church family. It is one way CBF encourages young readers to learn to
read God’s word for themselves.
- Harvest Costume
Party
Held the closest
Saturday to October 31, for grades 1-5, in the afternoon.
- Kid’s Night
Out
An evening out for
preschoolers and children (and parents!). The children enjoy an evening
with church friends watching movies, parents use the time to go shopping
or enjoy a special evening out. Held the first Friday in December, 6
p.m. to 9 p.m., ages birth-6th grade.
